Mother's Day Card

This is my second post of the day - please scroll down to see my first post

Hello again, crafty friends and welcome to "Who's the dimwit, Version Two"! Yes, that would be ummm, errrrrr (looking round room frantically) .... Me again!!!!! :o)

It's new challenge time at Lexi's Creations and this time Susan has set us the challenge of Mother's Day or a Special Female Birthday Card.  Obviously, Mothering Sunday (Mother's Day) in the UK has now passed, but you can show us the cards you made for your mother this year, as long as there's no backlinking, or you could make a card for a special female in your life.

Our sponsor for this fortnight's challenge is the lovely Lexi from Fairy Dust Crafts, who (as well as letting the DT loose in her store to choose images to showcase for this challenge) is offering our lucky winner 5 Digital Stamps from her store. Not only will you find the gorgeous digital images there, you'll also find rubber stamps and lots of other fabulous crafting goodies like Viva Decor, Promarkers, a variety of lace and ribbons, embellishments, flowers, charms etc. and all at fantastic prices ... now that's well worth a visit!

So, here is the card I made for my Mother in Law featuring one of Lexi's gorgeous images:

My card recipe is as follows:

  • Base Card - is Centura Pearl in Ivory, which I have cut, scored and folded to make a 15cm square card
  • Design Papers - from the Paintbox Poppets Papercrafting Collection CD Rom this is a Card Companion Set meaning there are matching papers, sentiments and embellishments just ready to be printed! I love the soft colours of this set.
  • Image - this gorgeous bouquet of flowers is called Roses and is by Lexi at Fairy Dust Crafts. I have brought them to life using my Spectrum Noir Pens in the following colours:
    • Roses - PP4, PP5
    • Seedheads - Gold Gel Pen
    • Foliage - DG2, DG3
    • Wrap - FS2, FS3
    • Ribbon - PP4, PP5
    • Outline - GG1
  • Sentiment - is by one I created within the Paintbox Poppets Papercrafting Collection CD Rom Card Companion using the inbuilt Verse Writer. This natty part of the program means that you can tailor make a sentiment for the recipient, before printing out the set. And as my MiL is a "church lady" and believes that Mother's Day should be Mothering Sunday (to give it the correct title from the church calendar), I was able to oblige!
  • Buttons - are faux button embellishments from the same Card Companion set. I cut the "buttons" out, and then stuck 2 more layers of card underneath each one to make them stand out from the card a bit more.

Head on over to Lexi's Creations and see how my talented teamies and our Guest Designer Viv are celebrating Mother's Day or Special Female Birthday. Don't forget to come back and share your creations with us! You've got until Saturday 30th March 2013 to link your cards up.

I would like to enter this card into the following challenge:

Hope you all have a fab week!

Teacher says ...

Happy World Card Making Day to everyone, whether you dip into my blog now and then or whether you're a regular follower. And talking of followers, a very warm welcome to Lori and Yolie who are my newest followers.

When I started card making last year, I had no idea how addictive it would be. Then I started my blog just 15 short months ago and I have made so many blogging and forum friends. You all inspire me with your gorgeous creations and keep me going with your very kind and encouraging comments. Thank you to you all.

This is a card I made much earlier this year, when my youngest daughter's teacher left the school ... somehow I just hadn't got around to blogging it! However, its moment has come as Paulette at Create with TLC is running a World Card Making Day Blog Hop. There are only 2 rules: your creation must be new & not have been featured on Create with TLC and it must also contain something from Create with TLC.

My card recipe is as follows:
  • Base Card - is Centura Pearl in Ivory, which I have cut, scored and folded to make a 15cm square card.
  • Image - is called Playing Teacher and is, of course, a wonderful vintage image from Paulette at Create with TLC - I think this digi was a freebie she gave away sometime in March this year. I coloured this delightful image with my Spectrum Noir Pens but I can't remember what shades I used ... sorry! I tried to echo the colours of the DP when I coloured the cushion and I'm even pretty happy with the girl's hair as it looks like I've managed to colour in some shine! :o)
  • Sentiment - is also by Paulette at Create with TLC, and this one was also given away on the blog in March this year. I love the fact that there's italic writing which is written between "lines" just as young children would learn to write ... which made it perfect for a Primary School teacher!
  • Ribbon - black organza from my stash.

So there you have it - my very simple (even by my standards!) card to share for World Card Making Day. I hope that it qualifies for Paulette's Blog Hop as I'm heading over there now to link it up!

I would also like to enter this card into the following challenges, with a little help from the girls at Feline Playful (thanks girls!):

You've still got over a day to join in the fun, and if you sign up to be a follower of Paulette's Blog today, she's sharing plenty of goodies for World Card Making Day. And given that she shares one fabulous piece of word art every day for free, as time goes on you're bound to find the perfect saying in your digi stash!

I  hope you are having a great weekend.

Life in Black & White

Hi,

Hope you're all enjoying the fine spring weather that we seem to have at the moment ... it sure makes for a brighter day! Just a quick post from me this evening, as I realised I haven't posted for a week now :o(

This is the card I made for my husband's Birthday, which he celebrated at the weekend:

I wanted the card to be bold and masculine, and I think I've achieved that result!

My Card Recipe is as follows:
  • Base card - 300gsm Centura Pearl Black (part of the Darks pack from Crafter's Companion)
  • Design Paper - from Paintbox Poppets CD-Rom (Crafter's Companion), on which I changed the colour by using the built in "Colouriser" function. Having embossed the shape onto the paper, I then tore the paper to leave distressed edges.
  • Image - from Create With TLC . I just love the simplicity of this vintage image.
  • Equipment - my Ultimate Pro by Crafter's Companion . Every card I make starts and finishes with this piece of kit. For this card I used the Paper Trimmer to cut my card to the required size, and then used the Scoring Lines to fold it. I made my aperture in both the card and the design paper using one of the inbuilt Embossing Shapes. And I finished my project by making an envelope exactly the right size to fit my card! I considered whether I would really get my money's worth out of this, but I have to say I am not disappointed. There's so much more I could tell you about it ... but I promised this would be a quick post!

I would like to enter my card for the following challenges:
  • National Craft Month Challenge at Jellypark Challenges My favourite craft product has to be my Ultimate - it does so much in a small package!
  • Challenge #31 - Sihouette at Little Miss Muffet

Hugs, Helen x

PS: Welcome to my newest followers - I hope you enjoy my creations!
